When I think of Easter, I think of colorful eggs and chocolate bunnies. As a child, I was always wondering why people would color eggs, aren't they for eating? And it's so fragile, what do you do with them after it's all painted? These were the many questions I had asked in my head about Easter but never got an answer. I think I didn't ask because as a typical kid, egg hunts and chocolatey treats are far more urgent than holiday origins.

In any case, there are a lot of benefits to teaching your kids about Easter. For one, it teaches your child about acceptance of all faiths. Much like celebrating Christmas, you don't have to be religious to participate in the cultural traditions. Also, it introduces your child to the concept of birth and renewal. Whatever you decide to teach your child, follow up with engaging Easter activities in Mandarin Chinese! Teaching your child about western holidays in Mandarin Chinese helps your child see that Mandarin Chinese is relevant to his/her environment and can be used for all occasions. Too often children see Mandarin Chinese as a separate entity reserved for Chinese class, or storytime. By infusing Mandarin Chinese into your child's everyday activity and celebration, your child will view Mandarin Chinese as part of everyday learning.
