Pineapple is more than a tasty fruit, it is a lucky fruit in Chinese culture because the sound in Mandarin Chinese, Feng Li [鳳梨 | 凤梨] is close to the sound of “Wealth Coming”. Therefore, you will often see pineapples as part of the many decorative ornaments during Chinese New Year. In this DIY Lucky Pineapple Number craft activity, you’ll find two printable sheets containing one pineapple outline with numbers and one filled with number dots. There are a couple of ways to make the lucky pineapple. You can cut out the yellow number dots (1” hole punch if you have it) and glue them onto the matching numbers on the pineapple, or print the black and white version on yellow colored paper and cut them out. Your kid will count from 1 to 39 in order to complete the sequence and build Chinese number recognition skills.
